The Academy of Sciences of Albania, in partnership with the University of Tirana, the Agricultural University of Tirana, and several international collaborators including the EBTNA-Euro Biotech Thematic Network Association, COST Actions EPICATCH and Ocean4Biotech, the University Ben Gurion of Negev, Israel, and the University of Ioannina, Greece, hosted the 2nd International Conference on Water Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development (WEPSD) on 22nd-23rd September 2023 in Tirana, Albania. This significant event provided a platform for academics, researchers, industry professionals, and representatives from both private and public sectors to exchange ideas, innovations, and research findings focused on the protection of water environments and the promotion of sustainable development.
The conference featured contributions from numerous experts, including presentations by SUSNANO representatives from the University of Tirana. Alma Shehu delivered an insightful talk on the "Assessment of the chemical status of the Vjosa river catchment due to heavy metals distribution in surface water". Additionally, Prof. Majlinda Vasjari presented her work on the "Monitoring and evaluation of water quality of the Vjosa river and its tributaries", highlighting the critical ongoing efforts to safeguard water resources in Albania.
Through these presentations and discussions, the conference underscored the urgent need for continued research and collaborative efforts to address the challenges facing water environmental protection and sustainable development. It served as a call to action for stakeholders across the globe to contribute towards innovative solutions and sustainable practices for the benefit of current and future generations.
